Daycare is a multimedia installation based on how excessive nourishment can become more destructive than beneficial. This piece began as a marking time project where I recorded the process of a ripening banana. Everyday I would observe the fruit’s development and, in a sense, “nourish” it by watching over it. The more I studied the banana the more it rotted and became unhealthy. I felt this process was symbolic of how fixations can quickly turn harmful. It seems that the more I applied extra care, the more damaged and malnourished the banana became. The drawings show the intimacy of the observation process. The video projection provides clear documentation of the natural changes that occur. For me, the installation becomes a metaphor for excessive nourishing of any kind.
